Sustainability at TLR: From Ambition to Action

At TLR, sustainability is not a stand-alone policy-it is a structural component of how we operate. Guided by the belief that laboratory services and environmentally conscious practices go hand in hand, we are steadily building an energy-efficient, circular, and responsible operational framework. Our environmental efforts are tangible, measurable, and broadly implemented across TLR Services' infrastructure.

Energy Management: Measure, Reduce, Optimise

We actively monitor our energy consumption and invest in technologies that help reduce waste. The entire facility is equipped with automated LED lighting linked to motion sensors, ensuring that lights are only on where and when needed.

Heat generated by laboratory equipment is recovered via heat exchangers and reused to maintain a stable indoor climate and hot water supply. TLR does not use natural gas for heating and is not connected to the gas grid. Solar panels are currently being prepared as an additional source of renewable energy. The building's energy performance is continuously monitored, enabling data-driven improvements over time.

Circular and Emission-Reducing Measures

Beyond energy use, TLR implements sustainable practices across operations. We prefer suppliers that offer reusable or recycled packaging. Chemical waste streams are sorted and disposed of through certified routes. Solvents and reagents are reused wherever technically feasible, and analysis protocols are optimised to minimise per-sample consumption.

Sample and goods transport is conducted using electric or hybrid vehicles wherever possible. Currently, 70 percent of the fleet is electric or hybrid. By combining multiple assignments into a single route, we reduce emissions and improve logistical efficiency.

Certus Logic Protocol: Sustainability as Measurable Process Value

Sustainability at TLR is embedded in the Certus Logic Protocol. Environmentally driven actions are formalised as process criteria. This means that factors such as the energy usage of analytical instruments and the reusability of packaging are considered in daily decision-making.

For clients that prioritise sustainability in their supplier selection, this offers demonstrable added value. TLR's reporting structure enables transparency of environmental performance at each process step-without compromising quality or turnaround time.

Working Together for a Livable Future

Sustainability requires collaboration. Employees are actively involved in improvement actions, from switching off equipment to suggesting material-saving initiatives. Clients are encouraged to co-develop more sustainable solutions, for example through packaging, sample size, or transport arrangements.

TLR takes a practical approach. If something can be improved today, we do it today. Step by step, we are building a resilient, energy-efficient, and future-proof laboratory.
